GTS Ballina Results

Posted on Monday, June 07 @ 09:05:00 EST by bream

The Richmond River played it usual tricks; the last 3 tournaments held in Ballina were precluded with a host of natural events with the last Gamakatsu Teams Series Grand Final having the river in flood. This time was no different not only did the river get the usual pre tournament rain but there was also a Tornado thrown into the mix. 76 Angler braved the windy conditions in pre fish with what turned out to be a pretty good day on the water on the tournament day, the wind held off and the rain was nowhere to be seen with a fine sunny day.

The fishing was hard with only 8 full bags of 5 from the field of 38 boats. It took something special for Yamba Bait n Tackle to take out the Humminbird / MinnKota Ballina Challenge, and that was the 1.14kg Damiki Big Bream. Caught on the Yamba Prawn Blade, with their electric motor packing it in early, the boys decided to fish in the eddy at the start of the south wall meaning they could just sit there the entire event with no electric.

Mick & Ben fished slow and close to the bottom with the Yamba Blade and had a ½ hour bite time for the whole event, managing to fill their bag in this time and hoping the big bream was not a Jew with the murky water only finding out once it broke the water they quickly got in the bream in the boat. Taking home over $2000 worth of prizes including a Samurai Reaction rod and $1250 cash it was a good day on the water.

In second place was Bush n Beach/Berkley/Pflueger, Chris & Robert fished on the Porpoise Wall throwing hard bodies very close and managing to stick every fish they had bite they managed to get their 5 and it was enough to secure them 2nd place. In third was Crank Custom Rods fishing in Fisheries Creek throwing Cranks and other hard bodies near the edges just working hard to fill their bag.

With over $11,500 worth of prizes made up of top 10 prizes and giveaways for every competitor staying at the presentation who did not win cash. Include in these giveaways was a Minn Kota electric motor & Humminbird sounders. Ballina Bait & Tackle put in a few gift vouchers and Ballina Marineland gave away a complete service on a lucky competitors motor. The rest of the giveaways were made up of Gamakatsu & Atomic packs and a Samurai Reaction rod.

Gamakatsu Team Series would like to thank the volunteers who helped out including Adrian Melchior, Brett Hyde & Steve Mclean and we look forward to our first event being held at Nelsons Bay on the 4th July.
